ADDRESS BY THE COLLEGE PRESIDENT, NATIONAL POST GRADUATE MEDICAL COLLEGE OF NIGERIA, DR. L.I.D KUFEJI,FMCS,PNMC,AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF A TWO-DAY INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL CONFERENCE/CME TAKING PLACE AT THE GUEST HOUSE, COVENANT UNIVERSITY, CANAALAND, OTA ON 16TH DECEMBER, 2010.

My distinguished colleagues, Dr O.O Kukoyi, Medical Director, Ace Medicare Clinics Limited and other distinguished  invited guests, ladies and gentlemen.

It gives me great pleasure to address you today at the opening ceremony of a 2-day international Medicare Conference/CME.

I wish to thank the organizers of this conference for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Chairman of this occasion.

The theme of this conference: “Evolving concepts in Managing Medical and Dental Health” is very relevant now in Nigerian when the burden of non-communicable diseases as a result of our changing lifestyle is increasing without significant decrease in burden of communicable diseases. There is a need to conceptualize managing this problem in context of Nigerian demographic and socio-economic circumstances.

National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria being the apex training institution for medical and dental specialist is also at the forefront in addressing managing health care in the training of resident doctors. For Example, the college runs a two-week compulsory management of health resources course for all trainee residents before they are awarded Fellowship of the College.

The College is also commencing full time continuing Medical Education for specialist doctors to update their knowledge in modern and evolving practice of Medical and Dental Healthcare for all categories of doctors and dentists in Nigeria.

I Welcome you all to this international Medical Conference/CME, at the Covenant University, Canaanland, Ota and believe this forum will at the end of the conference articulate new ideas and develop conceptional framework in managing Medical and Dental Health.
