Dr. Babajide Coker
|
Dr. Emmanuel Babajide Ayodeji Coker is a Nigerian physician with twenty eight years of experience in innovative clinical medical practice, trainings, health management and organizational development at both public and private institutions. He has provided leadership for various national programmes/interventions within the Federal Ministry of Health in Nigeria including the HIV & AIDS Division, Epidemiology and Health Emergency Response Division, Department of Public Health and Special Duties Division.
Dr. Babajide Coker holds a Masters of Public Health from Lagos State University College of Medicine, a Masters in Epidemiological Methods and Statistics from University of Brussels, Belgium, a Diploma in Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management from University of Geneva, Switzerland and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from University of Liverpool, England among others.
He was awarded a WHO fellowship with the prestigious Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, United Kingdom and UNDP Fellowship for CHE course at Boston University. Currently, he is the National Coordinator for National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and provides leadership for the entire national response in Nigeria including a broad and strong Roll Back Malaria Partnership with significant funding support through the Global Fund Round 8 Malaria Grant, World Bank Booster Project, USAID and DFID/SuNMaP support, WHO and UNICEF support as well as the support of several Implementing Partners and Civil Society Organizations. |
Professional EXPERIENCES
Presently, he is the chairman of the Malaria Partners Forum in Nigeria and heads the secretariat of the Technical Working Group Malaria which reports monthly to the office of the Honourable Minister through the ATM Coordinating Committee. He provides leadership for the management of the Global Fund by NMCP as a Public Sector Principal Recipient and takes responsibility on behalf of the national programme for the implementation of the Global Fund R8 across all sectors, coordinating the activities of the other Principal Recipients.
Dr. Coker was the National Coordinator and Head, National HIV/AIDS Control Programme, Federal Ministry of Health, coordinating the health sector response to HIV & AIDS in Nigeria. His mandate included ensuring that services were taken closer to Nigerians, standard of care is regulated and aligned with best practices, medicines and other commodities were provided for the infected and affected people and the general population is targeted with preventive services.
He was a Consultant to West African Health Organization (WAHO) on Mapping of reference centre for HIV & AIDS treatment and care and the harmonization of common HIV&AIDS Treatment Guidelines for Liberia, Nigeria, The Gambia, Benin Republic and Togo. He also supported the Department of State for Health (DOSH) in the Gambia for the Training of Trainers on IDSR
Dr. Coker was an international consultant to the West African Regional Programme for Health (WARPH) and the European Union (EU) for Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) in Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Gambia. He served as independent monitor for the Immunization Plus Days (IPDs) in several states of Nigeria
Before he became the National Coordinator for the Malaria Progamme, he was Director and Principal Investigator, CDC supported National Influenza Control Programme, he was also the National Coordinator, World Bank Supported Avian Influenza Control Programme
Dr. Coker has served in several other capacities as chairman or member of Board of several tertiary health institutions, various committees at the national and regional levels including the health committee of Nigeria at 50 programme and surveillance coordinator of many diseases
