INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL CONFERENCE/CME 2010

The 2-day International Medical Conference was preceded by a welcome cocktail (view pictures) in the evening of Wednesday 15 December 2010, at the fountain foyer of the Guest House of Covenant University, venue of the conference. Guests from India had the opportunity to meet friends and colleagues from Nigeria in a cool and informal atmosphere.
The Conference started with registration of participants (view list) as early as 8am of Thursday 16 December 2010.
The welcome address (read full text) was delivered by Dr. O.O. Kukoyi, Medical Director of Ace Medicare Clinics Limited, who thanked all resource persons and participants for attending the programme. He promised that the event will be regular, and free to all medical doctors as part of the contributions of the organisation to continuing medical professional development.
Dr. A.A. Sule, Deputy Registrar, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, read the Chairman’s address (read full text) on behalf of the College President, Dr. L.I.D. Kufeji.
In a similar vein, Dr. Victor Gbenro, Deputy Registrar in charge of Registration at the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, gave the keynote address (read full text) on behalf of the Registrar, Dr. A.A. Ibrahim. He informed the gathering of the importance of CME and the decision of MDCN to start the implementation of renewal of annual practising licences based on the acquisition of minimum prescribed CME units from 2012.
The guest of honour, Dr. Oluyombo Awojobi, in his vintage address encouraged participants to embrace knowledge update in all its ramifications, and contribute to improvement of the profession. He, however, questioned the rationale for the charges imposed by the NPMC and MDCN in accreditation of centres for training.

In all, 16 quality and up-to-date lectures were delivered at the conference, by resource persons drawn from reputable institutions in USA, India and Nigeria.
